I wrote Getting on the Upside of Hurricanes after the worst hurricane to hit my home town of Punta Gorda since Hurricane Donna in 1960 and the worst hurricane to hit Florida since Hurricane Andrew in 1992. The damage and the trauma were real!
Andrew changed the way state and local Emergency Management responds to natural disasters but it didn’t seem to change the way ordinary people respond – as I learned, first hand!

Hurricane Charley did so much damage and so many people were just not ready.  I knew I had to do something, so I did what I do best – I made people laugh and I made them safe.  I wrote this book.
